PARALLEL PARKING

A carport with a cantilever roof was combined with a bank of outdoor storage. The free-floating roof was designed for parallel parking.

By rotating the typical orientation of off-street parking 90º, the carport did not extend into the backyard as far, leaving more space for the garden. This parking strategy is the first of its kind in Vancouver, so it was developed in collaboration with Vancouver’s municipal engineers, who will hopefully encourage its repetition elsewhere.
